2024 Healthy GenerAsians Fireside Chats

The 2024 Healthy GenerAsians Fireside Chats is a virtual event designed for English-speaking mental health professionals, health equity focused foundations and agencies, students pursuing the behavioral health sciences, and AAPI community members and allies, to bring education and awareness to the nuances and challenges involved in providing mental health services in an Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) cultural context.

Two event moderators, Thao Le, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner of Health Partnership Clinic and Maria Loconsolo, MA, LCPC, Regional Behavioral Health Advisor for SAMHSA will be interviewing three AAPI mental health professionals who have both personal and professional experiences working in an AAPI cultural and bilingual context. ​

AAPI individuals are underrepresented minorities in the behavioral health sciences particularly in the Kansas and Missouri regions. In addition, statistics reveal that Asian Americans are the least likely to seek mental health treatment compared to other racial groups. Come hear stories about the challenges and triumphs of three Asian American therapists navigating stigma and barriers to mental health care. All speakers and moderators have strong ties to Greater Kansas City communities and represent or have direct experience working with various AAPI ethnic groups including Chinese, Hmong, Korean, Taiwanese and Vietnamese.

The registration fee covers access to all three Fireside Chats.  If for any reason, registrants are unable to attend sessions, they will still have access to the Fireside Chats as session recordings will be shared with all registered individuals. ​

The 2024 Healthy GenerAsians Fireside Chats will raise flexible operating and program funds for Fountain of Life.  The event is virtual and takes place during 2024 National Suicide Prevention Week. ​​
